16 October: Classical music concert: Les Grandes Heures de la musique romantique française

  • French

Presentation

Sunday 16 October, at 6 pm, in Saint Michel's church in Cassis :

After an introduction to the music of the Italian Renaissance, we will switch to another musical universe which has in common with 16th century Italy that it was conceived for large and reverberating acoustics. Indeed, the great sacred works of the French Romantic period which will occupy the main part of this concert were created in vast Parisian places such as the Madeleine church, Sainte Clotilde or Notre Dame. Louis Vierne's spectacular Mass for two organs and choir, an emblematic work of musical creation at Notre Dame de Paris, will be performed in its entirety. Around this major work, we will be able to appreciate smaller pieces by César Franck (200th anniversary of his birth this year), Camille Saint-Saens, Maurice Duruflé...

On the programme:
Works by Saint-Saens, Franck, Duruflé...
Solemn mass for two organs and choir by Louis Vierne
By the Ensemble Vocal de Cassis and the Choir of the Cathedral of Gap.
Direction : Benoit Dumon
Choir organ: Agnès Nurdin
